Let yourself drift and pitch your tents wherever you like – no other form of vacation offers as much freedom as camping. The equipment plays an important role in this. We show beginners what they should definitely take with them for a successful holiday in a tent, mobile home or caravan.
Whether you are traveling with a motorhome, caravan or tent makes a big difference in terms of comfort: Motorhome or caravan vacationers can carry all their household items with them, while tent vacationers usually have to make compromises. Our packing lists show which basic equipment you need for camping, mobile homes or caravans.
Basics for all campers:
- Passport or identity card

- A tent that offers enough space and has a minimum water column of 3000 mm, because rain is always to be expected. If possible, the tent floor should have a water column of at least 5000 mm.
- An additional tent pad that protects the tent floor from moisture and sharp stones.
- Good pegs and a rubber mallet to anchor the tent
- A camp bed or a self-inflating sleeping mat that has a minimum sleeping height of six centimeters. When camping for longer periods in particular, it is important that you lie comfortably and sleep well.
- A sleeping bag or bedding that is suitable for the temperatures of the travel destination.
- A folding table and chairs
- Flashlight, headlamp and camping lamp for the tent
- Pocket knife or multitool
For the camping kitchen:
- Cooker, fuel, lighter or matches, outdoor crockery (cups, plates, bowls), cutlery, sharp knives, cutting board, can openers, spices, a cool box, washing-up liquid, sponge, washing-up bowl, tea towels, garbage bags
